Für Österreich und die anderen gleichzeitig der Europäischen Union beigetretenen Staaten fanden die ersten Europawahlen außerhalb des Fünfjahresrhythmus am [[13. Oktober]] [[1996]] statt, seit 1999 gilt der Fünfjahresrhythmus auch für Österreich. In Österreich ist der Wahltag immer ein Sonntag (oder gesetzlicher Feiertag).

Europawahlen sind die Wahlen zum Europäischen Parlament und finden alle fünf Jahre in allen EU-Mitgliedstaaten annähernd gleichzeitig statt.

Europawahlen in Österreich

Für Österreich und die anderen gleichzeitig der Europäischen Union beigetretenen Staaten fanden die ersten Europawahlen außerhalb des Fünfjahresrhythmus am 13. Oktober 1996 statt, seit 1999 gilt der Fünfjahresrhythmus auch für Österreich. In Österreich ist der Wahltag immer ein Sonntag (oder gesetzlicher Feiertag).

Wahlberechtigt sind in Österreich alle zum Nationalrat Wahlberechtigten mit Wohnsitz in Österreich oder mit (zu beantragender) Wahlkarte, aber auch Bürger anderer EU-Mitgliedstaaten mit Wohnsitz in Österreich. Die Altersgrenze ist wie bei Nationalratswahlen (seit 2007, also ab dem Europawahltermin 2009) 16 Jahre (vorher: 18 Jahre).

Wahlergebnisse im Land Salzburg

Anders als bei Nationalratswahlen bildet das Bundesland Salzburg keinen Wahlkreis, das Bundesgebiet ist ein einheitlicher Wahlkörper; es gibt also nur gesamtösterreichische Kandidatenlisten und Mandatsvergaben.
